NEW YORK- The failure of Congress to pass immigration reform last year has created a trend of action from several states that aim to put immigration concerns into their own hands.

According to an alternative report furnished by the National Immigration Forum, at least seven states opting for an Arizona-style law to curb their illegal immigration woes. These states, Ga, Mississippi, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Sc, and Tennessee are poised to pass legislation like Arizona’s questionable SB1070 despite overwhelming evidence how the law is impractical and prejudicial.

A law just like SB1070 would allow local law enforcement government bodies to act as immigration agents and appearance for immigration status of residents. This could require the residents to carry immigration files at all times in case of a haphazard check by police. Critics of SB1070 stressed that this training of randomly checking citizens for immigration documents would result in racial profiling and severe violations regarding human rights.

The sweeping advantages of Republicans in last seasons mid-term elections changed the balance of power in Washington, with the residence of Representatives falling under the control new speaker John Boehner and his fellow GOP congress.
