FCC outs Archos Android mini tablet — Entertainment

Does an Android system with a 3.2-inch screen nonetheless qualify as a “tablet”? That was the initial question that popped into my own head when I saw pictures of the Archos 32 Android tablet that were published Tuesday by the FCC.

Maybe I’m still feeling the results of my time with the Dell Streak, but aren’t tablets designed to stretch beyond the confines with the pocket? Maybe not. It seems suppliers have decided anything with a smartphone OS and a touch screen can be a tablet–a tactic that may come back to chew them if Apple begins including the iPod Touch in their examination of tablet computer market share.

Pontificating apart, the Archos 32 looks like entertaining. Along with details leaked from your short-lived product page on J&R, now that we know the Archos 32 includes an 800MHz ARM Cortex A8 processor, with 8GB of storage, running a custom made version of on a 400×240 decision touch-screen display. Oddly, a touch-sensitive path pad is also included beneath the display, along with more standard buttons for home, back again, enter, and menu.

Further particulars reveal specs such as Wi-Fi, Wireless, GPS, composite video output, and a rear-facing camera capable of 640×480 quality MPEG-4 video recording.

If the J&R trickle is any indication, pricing need to come in around $150, and the FCC processing has us thinking we won’t need to wait much longer.

I trust you there 3ollie. Why there’s such an aversion to simply giving the consumer what they want, is beyond confusing.

“netbook – keyboard = tablet” – would be an accurate and encouraged addition to the tablet planet. Give us a 7″ to 10″ capacitive or resistive touch LCD screen (resistive truly has caught up to capacitive if you know about the matter), a 1Ghz single or dual core processor chip, 8GB SSD or the equivalent safe-keeping device, 512Mb of RAM, a choice for 16 or Thirty-two GB’s of expandable memory, a good easy to use media player, Display, front and rear cameras with movie capability, an optional receiver for TV radio or even streamed Live multi network Tv set, Wi-fi or with wireless In, bluetooth and tethering capability together with HDMI in and outs and most just one USB port and the always needed micro presenter out/ headphone jack port. Maybe in the event it isn’t to much, any USB 3.0 interface. I know that seems like a lot, but think about it. It’s all reduced tech, two to four year old technology, that’s already in goods of all kinds with the exception of USB 3.0. Android 2.1
